Iowa driver dies after ignoring stop sign & hitting semi-truck, State Patrol says

BUTLER COUNTY, Iowa — A Parkersburg man died Monday night after officials say his car struck a semi-truck on Highway 3 in Butler County.

The Iowa State Patrol said the crash happened at 9:23 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 3 and Quail Avenue, southwest of Clarksville. A Dodge Dart driven by Brady Cashatt, 31, was traveling north on Quail Avenue when the ISP said he failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a Peterbilt truck traveling west on Highway 3 on the front driver’s side.

The truck rolled into the northwest ditch. The car also rolled and came to rest upright on Highway 3.

Cashatt was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The ISP report said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Peterbilt, 57-year-old Mark Behrens of Carroll, was transported to a hospital in Waverly for treatment. The ISP did not release the extent of his injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash.
